Boats & Boating

By far, many of my most cherished memories are somehow involved with boats and boating. Obviously boating is done in “nature.” The next category of most cherished memories are associated with being in nature. Hence, and for another reason, I have linked the two activities in the blog and its title.

Since I was an early adolescent I have been interested in boats and boating. I can recall spending many, many hours studying an article about Gypsy. Here is a video about the boat’s naval architect who designed Gypsy and includes its story. When I was 16 years old my father and I built the Minimax in the basement of the Alabama Power Company building in Birmingham, Alabama. I have very fond memories of a trip to Lake Martin.

This is not the place or time to reminisce about other adventures but I did just recall my most recent adventure sailing on Lago Bacalar (Lake of the Seven Colors).  Check out the images. Also, for some reason I recalled the sail down Eggemoggin Reach and having a large image of the Good Woman from the Deer Isle Bridge appear in the Bangor Daily News. I do need to finish this blog – but I just remembered the few hours I spent on a nuclear submarine.

What I am doing now is working to establish priorities for my life. I do want the remaining years to involve lots of boats, boating, and camping – to be close to nature.

Now someone reading the blogs will understand the context for developing the camping machine(s). They will enable me to do boating and to be close to nature.
