Pursue What Is Meaningful

About 25 years ago I was in a crisis and embarked on a journey to redirect my life. After about four years on that journey it became apparent to me that the crisis I faced was one of meaning and purpose in my life. I redirected my life accordingly.

Last summer (summer of 2018) I became convinced that I needed (or strongly wanted) to redirect my life. So, for the last year or so I have been exploring how to do this. I now have a plan to do this. I am now working to formalize that plan. I call this work my Rest of My Life (RoML) Project. I pronounce this acronym like “Rommel” – the German Field Marshall (the Desert Fox) of World War II.

This work has drawn heavily on the information from two people: Jordan Peterson and Rod Dreher. The hyperlinks to their names are their Twitter Feed and his Blog Posts, respectively. I have read or what I refer to as “scan-reading” these sources regularly.

I have studied Jordan Peterson’s book 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos and his lectures regarding the book. His “Rule 7: Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient)” provides the criteria for evaluating all of the actions of my RoML Project. This rule provides the title for this blog post.

Rod Dreher’s book
The Benedict Option: A Strategy for Christians in a Post-Christian Nation has been extremely influential in my thinking and planning. It has been one of the major sources in establishing my direction and goals.

Stay tuned for the details of my RoML Project and the actions that follow from its implementation.
