Nutrition Project

We need a “place” to live – the focus of “Camping Machines.”  We also need “food” to eat. My work focusing on food is my “Nutrition Project.”

The scope of this project includes all aspect of eating from purchase of the food (or picking it from a garden) through cleaning up the food preparation area to putting the dishes away.

For the different Camping Machines described in the earlier blog post I am developing skills in  different processes and acquiring equipment to deal with the different situations I will encounter.

I have learned that preparing food is both an art and a science and I am eager to learn how to do it and to do it well.  I do believe that being able to cook is a basic life skill that one should learn as a child so I plan to develop educational resources to implement my desire to  help others by teaching them how to cook.

I am attracted to baking because, for me, it illustrates the blend of art and science.  I recently spent quite a lot of time working with sourdough starter and baking sourdough bread so I have a really deep appreciation for and interest in the interplay between the art and the science in meal preparation.  This domain – art/science interplay – is an aspect of my character and illustrates how knowledge and wisdom leads to action.

I have lots to learn and there is much work to do so I am dividing this big project into a number of smaller, more manageable projects.  For example, my first major baking project for the CM’s will be baking a pizza using a gas grill. Another example involves understanding how much daily protein I am getting.  I don’t eat much meat so I have the impression that, at my age, I should be eating more protein. This thinking was triggered by such articles as Lift Weights, Eat More Protein, Especially if You’re Over Forty.

My plan is to do blog posts on the progress I make on this project.  Stay tuned.
